Gilded Age Mansions of Riverside Drive: “The Other Millionaire’s Row”

Along the Hudson River lies Riverside Drive, where President Ulysses S. Grant rests and Billy Joel captured its spirit in “New York State of Mind.” Developed later than the opulent stretches of Fifth Avenue and Central Park West, this hilly, curving boulevard follows Riverside Park, designed by Central Park’s Frederick Law Olmsted and later refined by Calvert Vaux. The area still boasts architectural treasures such as the marble Schinasi Mansion, the Beaux-Arts Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument and Riverside Church, the tallest in the nation. Discover these landmarks and more in this one-hour workshop.

Led by Ginny Poleman – A graduate of Cornell University and a licensed New York City Sightseeing Guide, Ginny offers tours for the American Institute of Architects on the Classic Harbor Cruise Line's architectural tours and is an experienced guide for the Municipal Art Society and New York City’s largest art museum.
