The History of the South Street Seaport

Come explore the old and the new at South Street Seaport, home to the largest concentration of restored early 19th-century commercial buildings in the city, alongside the newly repurposed Tin Building, now a vibrant culinary marketplace by Chef Jean-Georges.

Through vintage and contemporary photographs, this virtual tour will trace how South Street Seaport has evolved from one of the first and busiest streets in Manhattan into today’s dynamic destination. Highlights include the South Street Seaport Museum and its fleet of historic ships, Schermerhorn Row, the Titanic Memorial, and the revitalized Pier 17.

Led by Ginny Poleman – A graduate of Cornell University and a licensed New York City Sightseeing Guide, Ginny offers tours for the American Institute of Architects on the Classic Harbor Cruise Line's architectural tours and is an experienced guide for the Municipal Art Society and New York City’s largest art museum.
